Height, not age
Buying by age is the single largest cause of returns in children’s clothing, and it is entirely avoidable. Height varies enormously within any age band, and it is height that decides whether a sleeve ends at the wrist.
So: every size on this site is a standing height in centimetres. Ages appear in brackets on the chart below, and only there, as a starting point for someone buying a gift with no measurement to hand. If you have the measurement, ignore the age column entirely.
The full size chart
Fifteen height steps from 50 cm to 152 cm. Find the row your measurement falls into — that is the size.

Not every piece comes in every size — a kimono wrap top stops at 74 cm because that is when a baby stops needing one. Each product page lists the sizes it is made in.
The size finder does this lookup for you and also tells you how much growing room is left in the size it picks.

How to measure
Two minutes, a wall and a tape measure.
- 1Shoes off, socks fine. Hair flattened if it is tall.
- 2Heels, bottom, shoulders and back of head against a flat wall, looking straight ahead.
- 3Lay a book flat on the head, spine against the wall, and mark the wall at the underside.
- 4Measure from the floor to the mark. Round to the nearest half centimetre.
For a baby who cannot stand: lie them flat, mark the surface at the crown and at the heel with the leg gently straightened, and measure between the marks.

Reading flat measurements
Every product page gives the garment measured flat, not the body it fits. That is deliberate: flat measurements are checkable. Lay a garment you already own on a table and compare.
- Body length — highest point of the shoulder straight down to the hem.
- Chest, flat — across the garment 2 cm below the armhole. Double it for the full circumference.
- Sleeve length — shoulder seam to cuff edge.
- Inside leg — crotch seam to hem.
- Waist, flat, relaxed — across the waistband with the elastic unstretched.
The ±1 cm tolerance
Every measurement on this site carries a tolerance of plus or minus one centimetre. Fabric is cut in stacked layers and jersey relaxes at different rates; a garment that measures exactly to the millimetre does not exist outside a spec sheet.
If a garment you receive is outside that tolerance, that is a fault, not a variation. Tell us and we will replace or refund it at our cost.
Between two sizes
If a measurement lands on a boundary — say 107 cm, between 104 and 110 — here is what we would do:
- Everyday layers: take the larger size. A tee with a season of room in it is worth more than one that fits perfectly for six weeks.
- Trousers and joggers: take the larger size and turn the cuff. The waistband adjusts; the leg does not grow back.
- Outerwear: take the larger size, so a jumper fits underneath.
- Sleepwear: take the size that matches the height. See below — this one is not a preference.
Still unsure? Send us the height and a person will answer, usually the same day.
Sleepwear sizing
Do not size up on sleepwear. Our sleep pieces meet the federal children’s sleepwear rule by being cut close to the body rather than by being treated with flame retardants. A larger size is a looser garment, and a looser garment no longer complies on that basis.
Buy the size that matches the current measurement, and replace it when it is outgrown rather than buying ahead. Every sleep piece carries a yellow tag reading “Wear snug-fitting. Not flame resistant.” The full explanation is on the safety standards page.
Adult sizing
Matching adult pieces run XS to XXL on standard adult body measurements, not on height. Each adult product page gives flat chest, body length and sleeve for every size. They are cut to be worn with the children’s pieces, not scaled up from them.
Adult pieces are not children’s products and the children’s safety standards do not apply to them. Their product pages say so.
